Frequently Asked Questions
What happens on my first visit?
The patient will fill out the necessary paperwork and Dr. Tenenbaum will do a consultation, comprehensive health history and an examination. Treatment will begin on the first visit. During the consultation, history, and exam, Dr. Tenenbaum will determine if a referral for other health care services is needed.
How do you treat patients?
The treatment of choice is the manual chiropractic adjustment. In cases where this is not the best option, instrumented adjustments or low and non-force techniques may be used. Dr. Tenenbaum also incorporates orthopedic massage, physiotherapy modalities, nutritional counseling, supplementation, lifestyle alterations, rehab and exercise plans.
How long will it take to fix this?
Every case is unique. Dr. Tenenbaum strives to give patients realistic time-frames in which to meet their goals. In general, acute injuries are treated more frequently at the onset of care. Once healthy, Dr. Tenenbaum encourages all patients to continue with regular maintenance care at a frequency appropriate to that individual's needs.
Do you work with other doctors?
Yes. Every doctor has his/her specialties. Dr. Tenenbaum recommends that patients see their other healthcare providers accordingly. His goal is for the patient to get the best possible care.
Does what you do work on everyone?
What Dr. Tenenbaum does will bring any patient under care closer to a state of health and wellness. Unfortunately, there are some conditions such as severe wounds, displaced fractures, failed or removed organs, severe infections, etc. which surpass the body's abilities to heal itself. In these cases, other forms of care are required.
How long does a treatment take?
The normal office visit takes 20 minutes. The initial consultation, examination, and treatment takes 40 minutes.
Are chiropractors considered doctors?
Yes. Chiropractors are portal-of-entry doctors, meaning that they are seen without referral and possess themselves the power to refer to other health care providers. Chiropractors must complete a four-year pre-medical degree before entering the chiropractic graduate program. Once accepted, Doctors of Chiropractic undergo another rigorous four to five year program of study at an accredited chiropractic college to become a primary health care provider. The complete graduate curriculum includes a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience. This medical education spans from anatomy with human dissection, pathology, neuroanatomy, biochemistry, and endocrinology, to clinical studies including physical diagnosis, neurology, x-ray analysis, physical therapy, and therapeutic techniques. The last year and a half of Chiropractic College requires a hands-on internship and clinical preceptorship.
Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic is one of the safest forms of healthcare and is an excellent alternative to drugs and surgery. Research shows Chiropractic adjustments are about 100x safer than over the counter pain medication.
What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is a quick and gentle thrust into a specific joint that isn't moving properly. This can be done with the doctor's hands, a special table, or an adjusting instrument. In addition, non-force techniques can be utilized such as blocking the pelvis.
How long will I need chiropractic care?
Dr. Tenenbaum's goal is to put his patient's health in their hands. After patients obtain relief from their initial complaints, Dr. Tenenbaum encourages them to live well and make conscious decisions for their health. However, coming into the office for regular maintenance care is highly recommended. Similar to flossing and brushing your teeth to help prevent tooth decay, spinal adjustments help prevent neuromuscular and skeletal degeneration. Most of Dr. Tenenbaum's patients enjoy maintenance care once a week, once every two weeks, or once a month.
What if chiropractic doesn't work for me?
Dr. Tenenbaum makes every effort during your initial consultation to determine if Chiropractic is right for you before initiating care. If he is unable to correct a particular health problem however, he will communicate that and refer you to another specialist who may be able to help. Your health is his goal.
Should children get adjusted?
Definitely. Toddlers learning to walk and crawl benefit greatly from Chiropractic care. Bumps and falls are a big part of growing up and your child will appreciate being patched up along the way. Children generally respond more quickly to care and require fewer and less frequent visits than adults.
Is chiropractic cost effective?
Medical studies show that Chiropractic care is very cost effective, reducing hospital admissions, hospital stays, outpatient surgeries, and pharmaceutical costs.
